Bonjour tout le monde!

I hope everyone is doing well. We have some awesome fun projects coming up - Grands Chefs, and some plays and we are starting electricity Monday - YAY!! I love teaching the electricity unit - it's a lot of FUN.

I do want to give everyone a heads up that we are 4 weeks from Spring Break, which is really exciting but also means we are heading into a CRUNCH TIME for projects and assignments. It is really important that we stay caught up with our homework and revision and use our class time wisely, otherwise we risk falling behind. That said... consider yourselves WARNed. Lol. Did I use that joke yet? I crack myself up. Ok here is today's homework:

French:

Livre de moi - section 11 - Ma routine de tous les jours - rough copy - due TOMORROW

Math:

Finish 4-5 more questions from the number line assignment - or finish it, whichever comes first!

Socials:

QUIZ TOMORROW - The United Nations, Rights, and Privileges. Have your son / daughter explain their notes to you! That could be quite the challenge! We really need to review for this quiz, or it will be really hard. As of this morning before lunch, everyone had a notes sheet to study from. So I expect that we will all come prepared.

Bonjour!!! Here is our homework:

French:

Livret de nourriture - this is a practice booklet that needs to be completed mostly at home. I am assigning a bit for homework every day. We should be finished pages 1-10 by tonight.
Livre de moi - working on good copies of secion 9 (mes amis) and section 10 (mes sentiments) at home. Very little class time will be given to this. We have lots going on so there will be a bit of homework coming your way.
Grands Chefs - watch for a newsletter coming home inviting parents to our grands chefs presentations. For now we are only in the planning stages, but students should bring a simple recipe to school by Friday.

Math:

Work for 20 minutes on the number lines. After 20 minutes that's enough and we can do more tomorrow in class.

Socials:

Quiz Friday - on the United Nations, rights and privileges. We have notes to review from, please make sure that we are all reviewing! This quiz will be a tough one!

Decimal numbers p. 90-91 #1-6

Notes for math:
- Répresente le nombre dans le tableau (put the number in a place value chart)

- Quel nombre a un 3 dans la position des ... (look at a list of numbers and write the number that has a 3 in whichever position is given, dixièmes, centièmes, millionièmes etc.)

- Décris ce que chaque chiffre répresente (describe what each number represents)
Ex: 4, 31652. = 4 unités, 3 dixièmes, 1 centième, 6 millièmes, 5 dix-millièmes, and 2 cent-millièmes.

- Forme symbolique (write in numbers)
Ex: 4 et 78 millièmes = 4,078

- Forme développé (write in developed notation - is that how you say it in English? I have no idea how it's said in English!!!)
Ex: 4 et 78 millièmes = 4 + 0,07 + 0,008

Écris un décimal entre 7 et 8. Write a decimal between two given numbers.
For example 7.6 is between 7 and 8.

Hope these notes help! They are directly in the book so if we compare the instructions in the book to these instructions we should know what to do!

Bonjour tout le monde!

We have been needing to buckle down and work hard these past few weeks! We've been covering lots of new concepts expecially in regards to verb tenses and verb conjugations. It can be a little painful trying to cram all that information into our heads so we might be a little more tired than usual. Just a heads up :)

We are also working really hard to finish our Livre de Moi. We are for the most part on section 9 - mes amis. I have asked for the good copies of sections 5-8 to be handed in on Thursday. Sections 5 & 6 were due awhile ago so they should be finished. I don't anticipate that finishing 5-8 is too much to ask, however if it is I encourage students to come speak with me privately.

Bonjour tout le monde!

I am not sure if your children mentioned that I was away a few days last week, but I am back this week and we are still moving on full-speed ahead! We have many projects and mini-evaluations coming up and it is really important that your child be comleting their homework and ensure that he or she stays caught up in class. For the most part we are all doing really well with this so far, I just want to make sure that everyone continues working to their potential, especially as our workload increases.

Here is what is homework for today:

French:

Livre de Moi - section 5 (ma famille) and section 6 (ma maison) good copy - DUE Wednesday! It is finished when it has been edited and checked by me and then copied into their livre, with the page decorated nicely. Feel free to ask your child to have a peek at theirs to makes sure they are doing their job. Some of the books are so lovely and creative!!
Livre de Moi - section 8 (mon éducation) rough copy - needs to be written tonight. We did 30 minutes of solid writing time in class so if we used our time wisely this should be almost finished.

Bonjour tout le monde!

No homework tonight but I just want everyone to have a heads up about upcoming assessments. This is what we will be assessing next week:

French
- body parts (study your vocab booklet)
- Avoir - the conjugation of the verb and all it's different forms

Math
- factors - finding factors, finding common factors, making factor trees.

A quick reminder as well - we should bring in our Secret Santa gifts for next Wednesday at the latest.

Also - students were sent home a notice about Grade Wide Dances - ours is next Thursday morning. Our class has been asked to bring 2 bags of chips / students to contribute to the pot-luk style snack that is served. *Note: Please bring a lunch to school that day as well! There are lots of snacks but I would not want anyone to go hungry. :)

Bonjour tout le monde!

I hope everyone had a great day! I know I did. It's funny, we were busy all day yet I feel like we got nothing done :) Oh well! We all need those work periods to get caught up... And we'll be back to full-steam ahead tomorrow.

We have decided to have a holiday celebration on the last day of school before Christmas break. Everyone elected to do a Secret Santa gift exchange. We drew names and the goal of the Secret Santa is to find the perfect gift for the person you've drawn - either by creating it, or by giving the person something you already own and think that they would like. In this way we are not only cleaning out our rooms, we are also re-using! :) It is a great way to do the gift exchange in my opinion. I have directed students that if they simply cannot think of anything then of course they could purchase a gift for their person (less than $5) for that day, but my emphasis is on something home-made or "second-hand" (what they already own) because it really should be the thought that counts. I have asked everyone to bring their gifts in next Wednesday - to ensure that all gifts are here before Friday! Any parent assistance in in finding gifts would be awesome!

Bonjour tout le monde!!!

Well talk about long time no post! YIKES! Things have been pretty hectic around here and I apologize for my lack of postings. I coach both boys and girls volleyball and that on top of various meetings and missing days from being sick has really thrown me for a blog-posting loop. On the plus side, despite my lack of posting, most of us are still getting our homework done. YAY!

This morning we did a bit of a re-vamp of our class. I clearly outlined the outlines and expectations for work habits at the middle school (they are also part of the student guide at the front of the planner - in English!) and we are doing a daily self assessment of our work habits. At the end of the week it will be coming home to be shared wtih parents. Just to let you know!

Here is what is on the agenda today:

French:

Secions 1-4 our our Livre de Moi are due THURSDAY!!! This is the GOOD COPY - all illustrated and pretty and neatly printed and outlined in felt. I mean super awesome quality good copy. I can't wait to see them!
Family vocab - QUIZ Wednesday

Socials:

There will be a quiz on "la rose des vents" (Directions - north/south/east/west/ northeast etc... but en français! And the quiz is FRIDAY!!!
Also be advised blog readers... you get to be the first to know that next week there is a QUIZ on Canada. You need to be able to CORRECTLY SPELL the provinces/territories and also know their capital city (and spell that correctly too). Mwahhahahaaha your teacher is a tyrant! But really, it's pretty important to know.

I hope everyone had a fantastic day! I know I did. We had our fashion show today and we did a fabulous job! It was so AWESOME! I'm so happy everyone was here today so we could all be a part of it.

There is no new homework today, but everyone should make sure they have completed:

- Their clothing vocab booklet
- Their math p. 56-57 #1-6
- Napoleon book 8 and all associated activities.

Tomorrow we are entering a poster and poetry contest sponsored by The Legion. If you could please sign the parent waiver allowing them to enter the contest and return it to school (assuming they are interested in entering) I'd really appreciate it. If students are able to finish their poster or poem in the morning tomorrow then I will submit their entries on Monday. If anyone is not able to finish on Friday then they need to take their poster or poem home and ensure that it is submitted to the Legion in town before Tuesday.

Wahooo! C'est vendredi et c'est le weekend!!! I hope everyone is excited!

We had a wonderful day in class today and I was SOOOOOOO PROUD of all my students. We did our presentations for Extreme Environments. Some of us have our marks already and for those who do not I will finish marking with you on Monday. So far I am incredibly impressed! The quality of the presentations and the models is AMAZING. Can you tell how jazzed up I am? VERY! It is so cool to see how everyone is progressing so well :)

We don't have too much homework today - and due to time constraints didn't write in our agendas (crazy unplanned fire alarm... anyways...) but everyone should clearly understand the homework.

Here is what's coming up:

French

Clothing vocab booklet - due Monday (or maybe Tuesday if we want to keep it to study)
Clothing vocab quiz - Tuesday - it has all the words on the vocab section of our booklet

Math

We are FINISHED our place value unit. Everyone did really really well and I am so proud :) We all have our tests back. I have attached a learning outcomes note with each test and am asking parents to sign the note and return it so that I know they have received it. If parents could please ask to see the test - I know you won't be disappointed. I only need the note back, the test can stay at home.

YOUPIEEE C'EST VENDREDI! And it sounds like most of us have some fun plans for the weekend! I hope everyone is geared up for Halloween on Monday! I know I am :) I can't wait to see everyone's fabulous costumes and show off mine! Hopefully it turns out... anyways on to todays homework:

Napoléon - Livre 6 - activités - due next Tuesday - we will most likely have some time to work on this in class for a bit on Monday
Le Livre de Moi - Two sections (Me Voici and J'ai) good copies need to be complete by next THURSDAY! We have had time in class to work on them and should have a bit more time next week, but not much. Everyone has had their J'ai section edited for sure, and I have corrected most of the Me Voici sections as well. This means that all we need to do at home is colour/decorate and copy our good copy into our book. This shouldn't be too onerous.

Note: Monday is Halloween. Everyone is welcome to wear costumes to school on Monday if they would like. We will not be having a Halloween party in class - but we will be doing Halloween activities and learning some vocabulary associated with Halloween. In period 5 there will be a Halloween dance. Students are encouraged to bring a non-perishible food item as their "ticket" for the dance. This is not required, but all food donations go to the food bank and help local families! It's a great way to help out.

Also, parents, please check your e-mails as I sent an important e-mail home this afternoon. If you did not receive the e-mail can you please let me know and I will send you another copy. I can be reached via e-mail at awarn@sd83.bc.ca.

I hope you all had a great day and are looking forward to a long weekend! WAHOO! I wish it was a long weekend for me too ;) I will miss seeing you all tomorrow but I hope everyone gets to do something fun with their extra day off!

We don't have too much homework today... but here is what is on the agenda:

Prepositions quiz -lundi (we need to know: sur, sous, dans, devant, derrière, and à côté de as well as : au-dessus, au-dessous, à gauche, à droite and entre). Ask your children to sing you a SONG about it and do the ACTIONS. I'm sure they'll love it! :) :)

Math

Any and all math work from this week that was not finished needs to be done, we are movnig on to different math next week that builds on this math so it's really important that we are completing all math!

And that's all! It might be worthwhile to also study the clothing words because sometime soon we'll also be tested on that vocab.

I hope everyone is having a great Tuesday! We are a little heavy on the homework today so I've asked everyone to please try their best and work for about an hour, after an hour if they are feeling over-worked then I've asked them to take a break because I'm hoping the homework doesn't take them that long! We need time to relax and play en anglais as well! Also a little not, I'm not in the classroom tomorrow so there will not be a blog post, but I've posted Wednesday's tentative homework below. I hope everyone is having a great day! I know I did :) Just a quick note - a few of us have been getting sick and staying home from school, and I myself had to stay home yesterday so we probably could all use some extra hand-washing time as well as a little extra sleep to keep our immune systems up!

Bonjour et bon weekend!

I hope everyone has a great time with family and friends this long weekend. I think we are all needing it! Everyone worked so hard all day and I believe that none of us have homework! That's great!

If we did have homework to do it is:

Me Voici - good copy - coloured, with a border etc. due WEDNESDAY - so if we want we can do it Tuesday night and not have homework this weekend :)

Science

We have our Extreme Environments poster presentations next Tuesday and Wednesday so we should all be practicing our presentations (if our scripts are finished). The more we practice the more confident we will be when we present.

Me Voici - most of us left this at school - it will be due Tuesday, and we'll have a little time tomorrow, but we could finish it if we want because then it will for sure not be homework over the weekend!

Bonjour tout le monde! Phew! What a day! It was pretty intense in here and everyone worked REALLY hard. I was so proud of my students. We all worked so well even given two free work periods throughout the day. This is great! It definitely makes me look forward to doing even cooler projects since I know that this group can work really well when they need to. Great job everyone! We are still plugging along nicely, at this point it's looking quite likely that we won't have homework on the long weekend... but no guarantees yet!

Here is today's homework:

French:

two dictionary worksheets (most of us finished them in class)
Hourra c'est la rentrée - classroom vocab booklet - due FRIDAY
Dictée des actions - Section D - Friday.

Science:

Milieux Extremes (Extreme Environments) posters - they were actually due today, so they really need to be done for tomorrow. Tomorrow we'll be working on our presentation and maybe we'll get to present on Friday... if not, then practicing our presentation will have to be homework... but it will only take a few mins / day to practice and be able to present well.

That is all for now. BUUUT guess what? Tomorrow we start our first true grade 6 math learning outcomes! That just makes me SO excited! YAHOOOOOO!

Bonjour tout le monde!

I hope everyone has had a great day! It was certainly busy, we were buzzing around the room getting tons done all morning - wahoo! That is great! I am still so proud of how much we've learned to date. We are still cruising on ahead and have a fair bit of work to complete this week. However, there is a method to my madness - if we get enough done throughout the week then hopefully the only homework this weekend will be to eat turkey!

Here's today's homework:

French: dictionary worksheet (le/la/l'/les on the front and un/une/des on the back)

also our classroom vocabulary booklet is due on Friday
Remember to always practice les actions because we have another dictee this week. We're already on section D - WOW!

Math: crossword worksheet and there will be a grands nombres evaluation tomorrow

It's almost the weekend YAHOO!!!! I expect everyone is as excited as I am. We worked our brains REALLY really hard today so I imagine we're all looking forward to the break. Also we can all celebrate at home tonight because this morning we did a full 30 minutes en français with no English at all! This is just AWESOME and inspiring. What a great group I have :)

Here is what is on the agenda for homework tonight:

French: dictionary worksheet changing from un/une/des to le/la/l'/les and vice versa (99.6% of us finished this in class)
DICTÉE demain - our actions and spelling test for section C is tomorrow. We have been practicing hard in class and I'm confident we can all do really well tomorrow. Most of us have been rocking the action part and just need to work on our spelling. Spelling should get easier as we go. Right now it's tough because the English side of our brain wants to take over...
Math - practice grands nombres - larger than 1000 - we will have an evaluation of grands nombres early next week.

What a great day today! We did a phenomenal job duing the Terry Fox run! Youpie! I expect some of us might have sore muscles in PE tomorrow :)

Le dictionnaire - worksheet
Me Voici - paragraph about moi with fill in the blanks - and for those of us who seem to have forgot that we're in French Immersion, OUI this needs to be done en français (but we don't translate book or movie titles). This means we may need to use a dictionary... shock! gasp! imagine that... =)

Math: Grands Nombres II worksheet. We need to practice les grands nombres because we will have our dictée with grands nombres soon!

Bonjour tout le monde!

I hope everyone is having a terriffic Tuesday! I know I am. WOW! Can I just say I am so proud of how well everyone got down to work and focused today - we had a lot of material to cover and we did a great job helping each other out as we all try to learn and figure out those confusing words that the teacher is saying :)

Here is what's homework today:

Math : Grands Nombres I worksheet (both sides)
La rentrée (classroom vocab booklet) - complete any 3 pages in the booklet and be prepared to show me which pages you've completed tomorrow
Remember that our conversation with Mlle Warn is on Thursday or Friday... we should practice the questions posted yesterday. It might also be helpful to try out a few other questions too - such as ton film préféré or ton livre préféré in case they sneak their way into the conversation... *HINT HINT. =)

Also a reminder - tomorrow (Wednesday Sept. 28th) we are doing the Terry Fox Run as a school in period 3. So although we don't have PE on Wednesdays we will still need our PE strip tomorrow. Our goal as a school is to try to collect at least $1 for every student. Think we can do it? I DO! So if everyone can please spare a dollar - it's for a great cause!

Bonjour tout le monde! Welcome to another week in Late French Immersion! This week is shaping up to be a little more intense than last week so we can be looking forward to having a little more homework and really working our brains this week.

Here is what is homework today:

French : practice la conversation - we do a daily conversation each morning and this week I will be doing our first conversation evaluation. Each student will do a short interview with me either on Thursday or Friday. I have copied our conversation questions below so we all have them to practice :)
French dictionary worksheet - both sides. http://www.wordreference.com/ is a great online dictionary that will give the articles and proper word translations. Just a reminder that translation sites from google and bing are often inaccurate and I do not recommend using them.
Math : the front side of today's worksheet is homework - as well as Question 2 from the back page.

Wow! What a week! I'm really sorry I didn't get my posts up this week... it's been pretty hectic around here, but I believe everyone has been using their agenda and we had very little homework this week...

For the weekend there is only one math worksheet (double sided) if we didn't have time to finish it in class.

Bonjour tout le monde!! Youpie c'est jeudi! :)

I hope everyone is having a great week so far! I certainly am. We just came in from a P.E. class full of fun and participation and I'm just looking so forward to working with this wonderful group of students some more this year! We have a fair bit of review style homework tonight, as I am planning on doing some assessments tomorrow. Thus the homework is...

Practice and review all numbers 0-100 - perhaps have someone say them aloud or point to a number and then you say it aloud. Anything to hear those numbers and also number-word recognition would also be very beneficial. I'm hoping we will all be in a place to move on to big numbers on Tuesday.
Math worksheet - Révision des nombres - lots of us finished this in class today.
Practice les actions - section A - have a parent say the word and then do the action, or just look at the actions list and do each action while saying the word, or maybe put the words in a hat and the pull one out do that action and continue, or call a friend to practice with... ANYTHING you do will help with the dictée tomorrow. Remember - part of the assessment is knowing the actions and the other part is knowing the correct spelling. We can all do very well! We're a smart bunch of melons!!! :)

Bonjour tout le monde!

I hope everyone is having a superb Tuesday- I know I am :)

We accomplished a lot today and everyone worked really really hard. We are zipping along and everyone is doing a great job. We're starting to get into more complicated work and we even started to do some reading today! It was incredible seeing everyone trying to discover meanings in our classroom books. On days like this, I love my job a little more!

Here is what is for homework today... nothing formal just PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PLEASE!

Practice les action - gestures for section A on our yellow sheet, we need to know the action and the associated word with correct spelling if possible
Practice the numbers 0 - 100 ~ we need to really master them so that numbers over 100 will be easy peasy.
Finish the name art project that we worked on last Friday and yesterday (due tomorrow)
Please sign and return the permission form to allow us to go to Hucul pond, Little Mountain and the Field of Dreams throughout the year.

Hello everyone! Here is what is homework for today:

practice the numbers 0-100 in Math. We've learned to count to 100 and now we just need to practice, practice, practice as best we can. There is a dictée with the numbers tomorrow.
le calendrier - calendar worksheet - some of us finished it before leaving today. The first page is unscrambling the days of the week, the second page is answering the question "Quel âge as-tu" using the visual cues
practice les actions - we all have our word lists and we did the words for section A - we should all be practicing our gestures tonight as we move on to section B tomorrow. :)

Youpie c'est vendredi!!

Bonjour... Salut... et BON WEEKEND!

Wow!!! What an incredible week we've had. It's been pretty AWESOME! We've learned so much that our brain cells are probably begging for a break! Everyone's been doing great though and I am so looking forward to next week :)

I did not send any formal homework this weekend (I rarely send homework on Friday) however everyone could benefit from practicing the numbers 0-69. We all did well on our dictee today, but could use a little practice.

We can also sing the alphabet sont as well as "L'empereur, sa femme et le petit prince" if we want because singing them is a blast! ;)

I hope that everyone has a fabulous weekend out in the sunshine!

Bonjour encore! I hope that everyone had a great day today! I know I did :) We are making some great progress so far ~ I'm amazed at how fast everyone is picking up French - we are all doing awesome! So far we've learned basic greetings, the calendar, the weather, seasons, our numbers and a ton more vocabulary! This is just fabulous!

Today we had our first P.E. class. Most of us paid our school fees and bought our P.E. strip during period 5. For P.E. at the Middle School the t-shirt is mandatory however we can where whichever shorts we choose. For our P.E. class any shorts or track pants that will allow us to move easily would be awesome! Also, while specific P.E. shoes are not a must, good running shoes are. Skate shoes simply do not offer enough support for the kinds of activities we will be doing so if we can all try to get some running shoes for P.E. that would be super!

We had a bit of homework today. It is:
- Math numbers worksheet (both sides)
- Review numbers 0-69 for a dictée tomorrow
- Date/Calendar worksheet

I only give homework that covers material taught in class - so homework should not be that difficult, however all I ask is that my students do their very best and try to compete their homework, if after giving it a solid try, it is still too confusing - then just stop. There is no point in sitting at home getting more and more frustrated trying to do a task that you don't understand. I am almost always here when the school is unlocked in the morning and have no problems helping with homework before school or at lunch, and I leave it up to my students to approach me if they need the help.

That being said I hope completing today's homework is a breeze! It's just meant to be a review of what we've already covered!

If you are reading this post then you have successfully completed today's homework assignment! Felicitations! This is where I will post homework as well as due dates for large projects and assignments. I hope that you will use this as a tool to help you keep track of what is happening in class. It's always a good idea to check out my blog periodically because I will sometimes post hints about what to study for upcoming assessments.
